Website Mission

The reason I created this website is mainly to help everyday people understand and use their computers more effectively, and also to call attention to events in technology that seem relevant to me. I’ve realized over time that even though there are many websites that explain technology and offer tech help to their visitors, there weren’t many geared specially to the new and intermediate computer user. Sadly, it is just this group of users who get taken advantage of by online criminals by getting infected with all kinds of malicious software, to the point of having their bank accounts emptied and identity compromised. They also can fall prey to unscrupulous repair technicians due to lack of knowledge. This group also does not get the full value out of the computer they purchased, in part due to neglect on behalf of the user, and lack of education by the computer and software manufacturers. My hope is to prevent this by showing ways to protect oneself online by giving practical tips to those who wish to learn. While I do offer repair services, my aim is not to get rich on computer repair (as if one could) or to use this site to promote it; my goal is to help everyday people use their computer, which nothing more than a sophisticated tool, without losing their data, sanity, or falling victim to identity theft. While I do not claim to be a computer or security expert by any stretch of the imagination, I offer tips and techniques that I have gathered over the years that I find useful, with the hope they also will be useful to my visitors. I strive to be as accurate as possible, and I’m always collecting news articles and tips and tricks from all over the Web, and those that seem worthwhile I’ll pass on. The tips presented here are Microsoft Windows-centric; like it or not, this is the predominant operating system now and it’s the one I get most help requests for. While I do enjoy using other operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, Windows is the one that I deal with more on a daily basis. The other ones seem to just work! I’ll probably post some things about them on my blog. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your stay.
